why how & what
Hey everyone! To be expected, here is my why World Race explanation 🙂 I hope that this can help give you a clearer picture of what the heck is happening!
A while ago I was reading this book called Start With Why by Simon Sinek and was challenged by his perspective on the importance of sharing “the why” behind what we do. He says in sum that “any person can explain what they do. Some can explain how, but very few can articulate why. Why is the thing that inspires us and inspires those around us.” He suggested that starting with why, then moving through the parts of the brain that can more easily explain the how and what is the most effective way to inspire others. He completely convinced me. So here is my best shot at taking you from why, to how, to what The World Race means for me!
Why are you doing this?
I’m ultimately doing the World Race to invest in my relationship with God through the vastness of his creation. This trip is so much more than just a ‘missions’ trip. This is also about intentionally diving deeper into my personal relationship with the God who created me along with every single person, culture, and creation that I’m about to encounter. I know that God is going to use all the ministries, team members, strangers, different cultures, and more to speak to me and teach me more about Him and His character. And then the best part is that while I’m learning myself, I get to learn how to humbly but boldly share the raw truth of the gospel with the nations. It’s a win-win.
Okay, so… how will you intentionally invest in your relationship with God while sharing it with others?
Several different ways – here are some aspects (in my own words) that The World Race program specifically puts an emphasis on:
What exactly will you be doing?
My team and I are going to be spending the majority of our time working alongside ministries who are established in each country and promote long term change for the glory of the kingdom. That’s the gist. Other activities include living out of a backpack, adventuring every country I’m in, probably taking a lot of cold showers, journaling a lot, debriefing a lot, and who knows what else. That’s the fun part!!
The Lord has so graciously given me the time and flexibility in this season of life to again pack up and leave. There is nothing more that I want in this stage of life than to fully embrace the God-given desires of my heart and live out some dreams while I can! I hope that this post helped give you some clarity on the why, how, and what behind this trip. But for now, FUNDRAISING! Keep your eyes open for ways that you can help me reach my overall $17,700 goal!
Feel free to contact me through this blog, email me, call me or text me with questions or just to chat :))
Lots of love!
Heather
I love that Sinek book and love even more how you are applying it to your faith. So excited to see how God reveals Himself to you during the World Race!
Heather, to see and hear you talk about the desire of your heart to serve the Lord and let Him use you just blesses me so much and it challenges me to let God use me – even here in Indiana.
