One of my favorite songs right now is called “The Reason” by Cageless Birds (highly recommend listening to them) because it really perfectly sums up a lot of what I’ve been feeling/learning here lately. Here are the lyrics:

Oh, these are my eyes
Every morning
I open them wide
Looking, searching
Oh, these are my ears
Listen closely
Trying hard to hear
Something deeper
Oh, these are my hands
Reaching, longing
Haven’t always known
Haven’t known the reason why

[Chorus]
And I saw You
Face to face
And I heard You
Say my name
And I felt You
Take my hand
And I saw You
Face to face
And I heard You
Say my name
And I felt You
Take my hand

The song starts off by asking a lot of questions. They’re voicing their curiosity as they wake in the morning. Searching & longing for something deeper. They haven’t always known the reason behind it all.. they haven’t always had all the answers.

but then… they came face to face with The Lord and He shows up bigggg.

I love this song so much. The music is absolutely gorgeous and brings you into a space of immense hope. I feel like the chords in this song are going to be some of the chords playing in the background when I get to see Jesus face to face someday. Extremely graceful and so full of a radiating light. A choir of all the redeemed making a really joyful noise. Freedom.

A couple of blogs ago, I wrote about how I have a ton of questions, just like the beginning of this song. I’m still wrestling through some of those questions, but I’m simultaneously seeing the Lord so evidently. The last few weeks have felt a lot like the Lord breaking through and revealing himself to me in really simple, but powerful ways. I’m learning more about how I connect uniquely with the Lord. It may look differently than others, but it’s special and unique to me. I’ve been stuck in a rut, thinking that The Lord is just being super silent, but I’m starting to realize that The Lord is actually really freaking present. He speaks to me all the time, just in a way that I haven’t been keenly aware of for so long. I’m seeing The Lord more through other people. I’m seeing The Lord come alive to me through books/podcasts/conversations with friends, which is the more intellectual side of me that I crave. I see him a lot in the simplicity of moments, not always emotionally charged worship or things of the like. I think that for a long time I’ve gotten used to knowing the “usual”. The basic ways that believers should connect with God. But I’m breaking out of that a little more. Approaching God from new aspects and it’s really fun!!

A verse that I came across this morning is Psalm 73:16-17:
“When I tried to understand all this, it troubled me deeply.. until I entered the sanctuary of God.”

Although the writer of this Psalm is speaking about something a little different than some of the things I’m trying to understand, I think it’s a really sweet picture of how we can get really confused, ask a lot of questions, and sit in a place of not knowing.. but then God shows up. We enter into the presence of God and he begins to help us understand.

What are some unique ways that the Lord speaks to you?
What are some fun ways for you to engage in prayer?
